Rename Business

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Our present business name is 1Stop Hosting and Web Design. We have re-focused our business towards computer sales, repair, networking and/or other technology related services. We would like to keep the 1Stop in our business name if possible, but are looking for suggestions for a new name to better catch customers attention.

Visually, when I scan "1Stop Hosting", my mind ignores the one and sees "Stop Hosting". This clearly isn't what you're trying to achieve. My first suggestion is to use the word "one" instead of the number (still use the number in your website, but also buy up the spelled-out-version). Also, instead of "one" consider "first":

    One Stop Computers
    First Stop Computer Shopping
    First Stop Techno-Bazaar
Technology Made Easy By One Stop

You should consider other brand name options besides 1 Stop. Although, you might offer different services and making it easier and convenient for your customers to do it all at one place; you are competing on the same value proposition with other companies from job search to auto services.

Think about what will differentiate your company from the competition, while creating an easy to remember name. Just as a brainstorming warm up, have you talk to your current customers to see what will they say?

    Dear Barb,

You are a business that solves all your customers needs at one place. That's the message you're trying to get out.

Now that you've widened your focus to hardware related services along with web design and hosting, you are looking to incorporate all that in your name.

My suggestion is instead of trying to find a name that explains it all - go in the opposite direction. You already have "1Stop Hosting and Design" - trim it down to just....

    1Stop

The power in that name without any additional words will truly give you the image your business is looking for.

Of course you can use a tag line to explain more about your business and it's tech bearing.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

I'm not a huge fan of 1Stop, visually, though it gets what you're trying to say you do across.

So, if you're intent on keeping the 1 Stop, how about:

    1Stop Computing101

    1Stop4Computers

    1Stop Tech

    Good luck!

    Hi,

First I'd recommend going for the business market if you're going into PC repair and sales. That's the only segment worth doing. I ran a PC repair shop for 15 years and unless it's an insurance claim like a lightning strike, residential business isn't worth doing.

Go for local keywords like "Tampa PC repair" and others to your area. People treat Google as the yellow pages. Getting local keywords both for pay per clicks and natural rankings is much easier for these.

I would also go into the content creation business. If you do hosting already it's a great way to get subscribers who want better Google ranking by frequent and unique updates to their content.

If you're going to get a new domain for that business, buy a used domain older than 2 years to avoid the Google sandbox, and make sure it's not someone selling it cheap because they got it banned. Also register it for 10 years, it will help your ranking if Google sees it's registered for a long time.

As to your question, your domain should be a compound word like fixyourcomputer.com or something similar. You'll be limited if you want to make one from scratch and endure the Google sandbox, or buy a used domain and hit the ground running.
