Branding / Sub-brand Names For Mobike Upgrade.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
我们制造&市场摩托车品牌。somehow, the sales are not picking-up & brand is unable to meet revenue targets. while in the same segment, competition is doing very well which can partly be ascribed to their strong brand equity & long history. now, we are coming-out with an upgrade of existing model & need to rebrand keeping the existing brand name also to the model. for e.g. if original name is say "pulsar", we require to add something more to it such as "pulsar plus" etc. can anyone help me in the rebranding / sub-branding exercise pl ?? suggest what names i can use ? thanx.

Sanjay, I don't mean to give a "flip" response to your well-considered question, but I am acting on impulse here. I had a sudden idea for your product name:

    Calcutter.

Whilst I can see value in the comments already posted, suggestions including adding a modifier to the current brand - or even changing the name altogether - are irrelevant unless you know if there is a 'problem' and 'what' it is.

By asking for name suggestions ad hoc like this, I wonder if strategy - or lack thereof - is the issue. As has been noted in many postings, this is not necessarily about the name alone - changing it is a Band-Aid, not the cure to the problem.

A good name can make all the difference and a great name can change consumer behaviour and influence a purchase decision; but a bad product or incorrect strategy needs more than a new brand name or repositioning to bring success.

Providing more information about the situation and some hard data - or perhaps just getting some initial facts and feedback together - would be my first suggestion, as has been suggested by others before me. Of course, revealing all potentially renders you more vulnerable :-)

But, after all, Harley Davidson didn't change its name or move away from its core product to climb out of a slump a few years back.

If you'd like some assistance, I specialise in nomenclature, naming strategy and name creation - I'm not a creative who 'does naming' but a brand language strategist. Just yell out if you think I can help.
