How Did Porsche Position The Cayenne Among Suvs ?

The Porsche should be seen by potential customers as an independent vehicle concept, but also as a 'Porsche'. How should Porsche aim to be perceived - as a high-class offroader like the Range Rover or as a great onroader like the BMW X5 or somewhere in the middle like the Mercedes M-Class?
What was the strategy that Porsche used and where does it lie now amongst its competition?
