Compensation For Web Intern?

Posted bypeteron 50 Points
Hello, we are in the midst of looking for an web developer intern to work at our company. The intern's primary tasks would consist of posting web content as well as basic design work. My question is, how much is proper compensation? We are thinking of paying him/her $13/hr. Is that reasonable?

I think that is very reasonable, although it will be dependent on experience and the quality of work found in their portfolios as well.

I would suggest making contact with and web/design instructors at your local high schools. Depending on the amount of work/commitment you are looking for from your intern, you may be able to find a student who would be more thrilled with the idea of having a professional project behind their belt than the wage!

Very reasonable if the person is a college student. Maybe on the high side for a high school student.

There are many people out there looking to add some professional experience onto their resume.

Can you afford $13/hour? You'll know if it's high based on the number and quality of applicants you get.

If it's too high you'll have very experienced people banging on your door

Honestly that sounds really low. You may be able to get a college student but that's it. Web developers in general make high hourly rates...you should contact some local agencies that place IT / web folks to get an idea of what their clients are being charged.
