Response/reaction To 800# (877 Paint-me)

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I have a residential painting company with a toll free number of 877 PAINT-ME (724-6863). Does the number connotate any negative response/reaction. Hate for this number being a PR nightmare.

I see no negative connotation with the number. I think it is great.

    Run with it!

    Thanks Kris,

I don't know if it's a reflection on a person's background but some have said that "bite me", eat me" or a sexual connotation come to mind.

Let's see others see it too.

Well, I guess I'm the odd woman out, but my mental image is of someone painting themselves! (think Blue Man Group gone way too far). I like the PAINT-MD idea though.

I don"t know how many responders so far are women but my initial contact with customers is usually with a woman (wife mostly). It wouldn't be a good thing if most woman thought of the negative connotation.

If you want to be super safe, could you change the numbers/letters to PAINT-IT?

I also grab the "bite me" relationship, but "paint" and "bite" are worlds apart in definition. Should be an easy number to remember without fallout, regardless of which one you use.

Not for me. If you could find PAINT 4 ME being available that might solve your "problem"

Recommendations for other toll free numbers are almost impossible to acquire - they're already taken. So PAINT-ME is what it is.

I wouldn't worry-- I like it, its funny and its subtle. Whether they like it or not, they'll remember it-- that is the goal. So any one (as Phil said) can interpret it anyway they can. You can direct them to the correct image by doing a house logo, with a name plate "ME". (Like a dog house)

I have a client who's tagline drives me crazy. A carpet store, who's tagline is "the best lay in town" (you lay carpet) Now that is offensive! But a ski town where things are a little "loopy" and love it or hate it-- it serves him well (biz wize).

I appreciate all your comments and so far, it seems the positives out weigh the negatives. Lets see if I keep the question open another couple of days to see if that changes. Thanks again to all.
