Name Needed For Makeup Artist Business.

Posted byolurinde.olutolaon 250 Points
I've recently relocated to Lagos, Nigeria from Miami, Florida. Lagos is one of the largest cities in Africa with an abundance of makeup artists. It's very competitive and I want my business to be distinct showing that south florida flair. I've had some jobs as a makeup artist for fashion shows, photo shoots and weddings, but I recently found out my business name: "Sapphire Blue" could not be registered because another business with the similar name exists. I have to come up with a new name quickly. I've thought of using Opal Beauty or Topaz Beauty but I feel I need a better, more sophisticated name. I'm not opposed to using a name that is not a gemstone. Sapphire is my birthstone and loved the idea. I also considered using my name: Tola Olurinde but I would rather have a business name. Additionally, I have no ideas for a tag line. My target audience is women in their teens to mature women who want to look exceptionally good for that special occasion; be it birthday, wedding, photo shoot, fashion shows, TV, commercial. Pretty much any event that requires a makeover.

Do the words "South Florida flair" resonate in your region? If so, there's way to play off that. Otherwise, if there's a wealth of other makeup artists, how do you plan to distinguish yourself from them? It's not simply a better name and/or tagline - it's something that people can get from you that they can't get (easily) from others. What do you think your special trait is - that your audience will care about?

Maybe even more specific than South Florida. Could something like Miami Sophistication help you to stand out? Is there anything useful that you can pick out about your having lived in America, or the more specific locations?
Most other artists there may not have the expansive universe of experiences that you bring to your clients. If Miami doesn't push any buttons, you could go all the way to World class.

    Wow! Moving to Lagos ....

now, forget the competition. They're not you, so they don't stand a chance, okay? Firstly, you've got direct experience of American trends and fashions - something that the American contributors here may tend to forget. Africa may be modern and well up to date - yet there is still some allure to those lands "over there".

Now one thing you can do with names that are already taken is to change a letter or two -

Sapphyre Blue [this is kinda okay]
Sapphire Bloo [yuk - but you get the idea!]

然而,如何many make-up artists have direct experience of the American market? I'm sure you can use this in some way to add allure to your name. I'm thinking here that most Nigerians will think of the US in more romantic terms than you do! Which is my starting point for a few names and taglines -

Sapphyre blue - American styles and beauty treatments [rather wordy]
Miami Saphires - Florida styles in makeup [or something like that - please, these are ideas you can better yourself. They're intended as a springboard for you, okay?]
Sapphire Eyes - makeup and beauty from the states
Palm Beach Sapphires - makeup and beauty from stateside
    American Sapphire
    Sapphire Americain [corny]

What do you think of these? Is there anything you could add to spice them up??

Remember that there's no competition when you've got a stunning USP like yours (USP= unique selling proposition - that tiny glint in the sapphire that makes it so special).
