The Marketing Concept

The marketing concept says that "The customer is King" and that the efforts of the company are to provide want-satisfying solutions that best address the wants and needs of a target market... and better than the competition.
If companies embrace the customer as the marketing concept would lead us to believe, comment on the increase in false or misleading advertising that makes claims that are untrue or only partially true.
How can companies reconcile approving such advertising when so much is at stake?
